NFL Power Rankings: 49ers Ground Jets 34-0!
The NFL changes from week to week and the San Francisco 49ers went out and made last weeks loss to Minnesota look like a fluke as they dominated the NY Jets for a 34-0 victory on Sunday.
The 49ers improved to 3-1 on the year behind a stiff defense that allowed just 145 yards and forced four turnovers, one resulted in a defensive touchdown as Carlos Rogers returned a fumble 51 yards just as the second half began and gave San Francisco a 24-0 lead.
San Francisco rushed for 245 yards on the day and were led by running back Frank Gore who carried the ball 21 times for 62 yards and a score. Quarterback Alex Smith went 12-21 for 143 yards, but more importantly he had zero turnovers as the 49ers offense held the ball for nearly 14 minutes longer than the NY Jets.
The 49ers now have three straight home games with Buffalo on tap next Sunday. The NY Jets offensive woes continue and despite the team starting the 2012 NFL season at 2-2, they must find a consistent quarterback or risk missing the playoffs again this season.
