Is Rory McIlroy the Next Tiger Woods?
Rory McIlroy put on a show at the 2012 PGA Championship, closing out the final round on Sunday (August 12) and winning the tournament by eight strokes. His poise on the back nine was insurmountable and he made everyone else on the course look ridiculous for the weekend.
McIlroy is now at the top of the golf world, matching the eight-shot win he posted at the U.S. Open last year by totally blowing away the field at the PGA Championship. This is where the comparisons to Tiger Woods start to come into play, especially with how young McIlroy is putting together these accomplishments.
The comparisons are going to get made and McIlroy already addressed his thoughts on the issue. McIlroy stated, "I think I heard Tiger say, 'You can have a good season, but to make a good season a great season, you need a major championship.' Now I've had two great seasons in a row no matter what happens from here in now."
McIlroy has learned a lot over the past year and it has become very clear that he is the best golfer in the world right now. Whether he can sustain that No. 1 ranking is an interesting question, but it's definitely going to be interesting to see what he can do with the momentum created at the PGA Championship this year.
Do you think that Rory McIlroy has the talent to become a better golfer than Tiger Woods at his prime? Is McIlroy on his way to greatness after winning the 2012 PGA Championship?
