Milwaukee Heads South to Take Care of Some Voodoo

MILWAUKEE (March 22, 2012) - The Milwaukee Mustangs are on the road in Week 3 of the Arena Football League season to take on the New Orleans Voodoo on Friday, March 23. 

The Mustangs’ offense certainly clicked in a 71-65 season-opening loss to Arizona last weekend. So there's good reason to believe that quarterback Gino Guidugli will be able to put points on the board against a vulnerable New Orleans defense that allowed 341 yards and yielded 63 points in a 63-62 loss to the Philadelphia Soul.

Honestly, it's hard for Guidugli to do much better than he did against the Rattlers, when he passed for 364 yards and five touchdowns. The signal caller helped lead a Milwaukee offense that scored touchdowns on 10 of its 11 possessions

It doesn't hurt that Guidugli has found a sizable target in wide receiver Jared Jenkins. The 6-foot-3 first-year wide receiver hauled in 13 catches for 211 yards and a pair of touchdowns against Arizona, which earned him the honor of being named the Russell Offensive Player of the Week.

The question heading to the Big Easy appears to be whether the defense can rebound from allowing nine passing touchdowns against Arizona, because New Orleans has a solid offense.

Quarterback Kurt Rocco passed for six scores and 314 yards against the Soul. Wideout Quorey Payne was Rocco's main target, snaring 10 catches for 130 yards and three touchdowns. If the Mustangs want to even the season mark at 1-1, they'll have to at least slow down the Voodoo offense.

WR Jared Jenkins Named Russell Offensive Player of the Week

MILWAUKEE (March 21, 2012) – The Arena Football League announced that Milwaukee Mustangs wide receiver Jared Jenkins (6’3, 225, UW-Stevens Point) has been named as the Russell Offensive Player of the Week for his performance this past Saturday when the Mustangs fell short 71-65 against the Arizona Rattlers in their season opener.

The Milwaukee native emerged as a playmaker in the passing game, and Mustangs quarterback Gino Guidugli’s favorite target. He finished the day with 13 catches for 211 yards and two touchdowns. He leads the league in receptions per game (13) and receiving yards per game (211.0).

The rookie hauled in nearly every ball thrown his way, including an impressive one-handed sideline grab on a ball that seemed destined for the stands. After two weeks of play, Jenkins is the only AFL receiver to notch a 200-yard performance.

Milwaukee Increases Depth of Receiving Corps, Defensive Secondary

MILWAUKEE (February 17, 2012) - The Milwaukee Mustangs continue to bolster the 2012 roster with several new additions:

Demario Bobo (6’0, 185, DB, Mississippi State)

Wendell Glenn (5’9, 185, WR, Glenville State)

Kinte Haynes (6’3, 215, DB, Riverside CC)

Jordan Schultenover (6’3, 210, WR/LB, Concordia St. Paul)

Pierre Singfield (6’0, 205, DB, Arizona State)

 Among the additions is wide receiver AJ Kegg (6’1, 195, Hillsdale College). Kegg played in three games during the 2011 season for the AFL’s Cleveland Gladiators after signing as an undrafted free agent with the Cleveland Browns in 2010. At Hillsdale, Kegg posted 85 catches for 974 yards and four touchdowns in 2009. He tied for second in the GLIAC in receptions per game and was sixth in receiving yards.

The Mustangs also signed defensive back Ryan McFoy (6’2, 210, Arizona State). McFoy was signed by the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes in 2011 and was originally drafted by the Sacramento Mountain Lions in the 2010 UFL Draft.  As a Sun Devil, McFoy totaled 107 career tackles (68 solo), 6.5 tackles for loss (minus 27 yards), one sack, eight pass break-ups, five interceptions, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

To make room on the roster, Milwaukee reassigned defensive lineman Terron Sanders.

Former Kentucky Star Brings Great Arm, Athleticism to the Stampede

MILWAUKEE (February 3, 2012) – The Milwaukee Mustangs are thrilled to announce the assignment of veteran quarterback Shane Boyd (6’1, 220, Kentucky) to the 2012 roster.  Boyd joins the talented quarterback duo of Gino Guidugli and Blake Bolles already in place for the upcoming season.

 Boyd most recently spent time with the Sacramento Mountain Lions, formerly the California Redwoods, of the United Football League in 2010. He started six games for the team during the 2009 season in which he passed for 891 yards and three touchdowns.

The dual-threat quarterback brings a slew of NFL experience to Milwaukee. In 2005, Boyd broke into the professional ranks with the Tennessee Titans. He has spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals, Houston Texans, and Indianapolis Colts. Boyd was a member of the Cologne Centurians (NFL Europe) in 2005 when he broke the league’s all-time record for rushing yards in a single season by a quarterback.  Prior to his pro career, Boyd started 16 games for Kentucky, passing for nearly 3,000 yards and rushing for 845.
